ROADS  CLOSED IN 1st DUE

 

Please remember  there are several ROADS CLOSED in our 1st Due Area.

 

DOUBLING GAP ROAD- (Lower MIfflin Twp.) Closed at Turnpike Bridge until 8/31/08

MIDDLE ROAD- (Lower Mifflin Twp.) Closed at Turnpike Bridge until 10/31/08

BRIDGE ROAD- (Upper Frankford Twp.) Closed at Turnpike Bridge until 10/31/08

SMITH ROAD- (Penn Twp.) Closed at I-81 Bridge until 5/31/08

ASPER ROAD-(Lower Mifflin Twp.) Closed at Creek Bridge (Kline Farm) until 6/15/08

 

Use good judgment when detouring effected roadways.

Construction along Centerville Road from Oak Flat Elementary School to just past I-81. Please obey speed limits and flagman. (This project will last into the summer and will be done during daylight hours.)

MAYOR ISSUES PROCLAMATION

 

MAY 12th - Newville Mayor John Gatten met with Friendship Hose Company EMS on Monday for the signing of a Proclamation saying that May 18th-24th will be EMS week which is in coordination with National EMS Week. The Proclamation praised the responders for giving their personal time to respond to emergency calls in the community, and risking their lives for others. The mayor placed a Gold seal on the Proclamation, which will be hung at the station.

DUMP TRUCK OVERTURNED

 

MAY 8th - At 1204 Hrs. units were dispatched to Lower Mifflin Twp. Doubling Gap Rd and Mohawk Road for Dump Truck Overturned with Entrapment. Crews arrived on the scene to find Dump Truck lying on drivers side with driver still inside trapped by his legs. Crews removed roof and pushed dash off legs. Driver then transported to Lifelion for transport. Units remained on the scene until 1320 hrs. Electric and phone wires also down.

MULTIPLE INJURY CRASH

 

MAY 1st - At 1656 hrs. Dispatched to West Pennsboro Twp. 300 Blk. of Big Spring Road for vehicle accident with entrapment. A147 on scene with no entrapment, but 4 class 2 and 3 patients. EMS assisted packaging patients, while Engine crew assisted EMS and handled fluid spill.

APR 29th - Dispatched around 1945 hrs. to West Pennsboro Twp. 200 Mt. Rock Road to assist EMS in establishing Landing Zone for Life Lion. Patient was involved in Equestrian Accident.

CADDY BURNS

 

APR 26th - Dispatched at 2103 hrs. to West Pennsboro Twp. 210 Big Spring Road Green Ridge Village for Vehicle Fire. Newville Police on the scene with fire from the interior. Handline off E147 for extinguishment. Crews remained on the scene for 25 minutes doing overhaul.

FATAL CRASH ON RT. 641

 

APR 26th - Dispatched at 2017 hrs. to 2262 Newville Road in West Pennsboro Twp. for Auto Accident with Entrapment. A147 on the scene with 1 ejected beside vehicle and 1 trapped in vehicle. R47 crew extricated the passenger, E46 and 147 crews provided lighting, patient assistance. Driver died from injuries at Carlisle Hospital. No helicopters available due to thunderstorm in area.

GARAGE FIRE IN BLOSERVILLE

 

APR 26th - Dispatched at 0920 hrs. to Upper Frankford Twp. 736 Bloserville Road for Garage Fire. Chief 48 on the scene with well involved garage next to barn and requested 2nd alarm. Crews assisted with extinguishment and overhaul. E247 supplied E248. Our hearts go out to Co. 48 for the loss of old Brush 48 (Rat Patrol). Thanks to PCE4 for the transfer.

WOODSHOP FIRE

 

 

APR 22nd - Dispatched to North Newton Twp. 1040 Greenspring Road for Woodshop Fire. E247 responding from Newville with heavy smoke showing. E247 on scene with 40 x 50 bldg. well involved. Handlines off E247 & E251 for fire attack and exposure protection. Water supply was at end of lane with fill site at the Cumberland County Landfill. Special thanks to the transfer companies who responded to the scene for manpower. Thanks to Co. 36 for transfer.

APR 19th  - Dispatched at 1157 hrs. to Penn Twp. 155 Beetem Hollow Road for Garage and Mountain Fire. R47 crews assisted with overhaul at the garage. BR47 crew and forestry crews assisted with extinguishment of mountain fire. BR47 crew remained on the scene until 1714 hrs.

COMPANY TRAINING

 

APR 12th  - Members of the Friendship Hose Company had the opportunity to use a house that burnt several months ago for training. Crews practiced may things including search and rescue, breaching walls and ventilation techniques.

FUND DRIVE TIME

 

MAR 30th - Members got together to stuff the 2008 Fire Fund Drive Letters. 6000 LEtters were prepared to mail out to our 1st due residents. "HELP US - HELP YOU".

BRUSH AND FIELD FIRE

 

MAR 14th - Dispatched at 1600 hrs. to West Pennsboro Twp. 457 Crossroad School Rd for a Brush Fire. C147 arrived to find about 2 acres involved. Booster lines off MP47 and B48. T46 supplied MP47. Crews mopped up in about an hour.

FRANKLIN COUNTY RUN

 

MAR 12th - Southampton Twp. Franklin County 878 Rowe Road - E247 dispatched at 2103 hrs. to assist on barn fire. E247 dumped 1 load of water and then placed in service by Command 15.

MUDDY CLEAN-UP

 

MAR 5th - Maintenance crews wash down a few Borough streets, the day after rain pounded the area. After receiving over 3" of rain some streets were left a muddy mess.

MOTORCYCLE VS. CAR WITH FLYOUT

 

MAR 3rd -  Dispatched at 1536 hrs. to Meadows Rd. and Roxbury Rd. in Lower Mifflin Twp. for Motor Vehicle accident involving a Motorcycle. Headquarters advised that Life Lion was enroute to scene upon information received from the caller on the scene. Crews attended to patient and established LZ.

ELECTRICAL FIRE

 

MAR 3rd - At 1438 hrs. dispatched to 457 Centerville Road in West Pennsboro Twp. for possible building fire. Headquarters advised E-247 that caller stated possible fire in the wall from electrical panel box. Crews checked building for extension, finding none held the box assignment to Co. 47 and 50.

LEAP YEAR RUN

 

FEB 29th - Dispatched to Penn Twp. 2675 Walnut Bottom Rd. for a Chimney Fire. Command 50 held R-47 and A-147. Crew assisted with roof operations. It's not every year you get a Leap Year Run.

TIME TO MAKE EASTER EGGS

 

FEB 27th - Members of the Ladies Auxiliary and the fire company have been making homemade Easter eggs for the past 2 weeks. This week Coconut and Cherry eggs were made to go along with the peanut butter eggs. Anyone wishing eggs can call or stop by the fire station. Eggs are 75¢ each.

HOMEOWNER SAVES BARN

 

FEB 22nd - Alerted at 0410 hrs. to 107 Long Road in North Newton Twp. for a Barn Fire. County advised that caller said flames evident. C-47 & E-247 arrived on the scene with smoke from the eaves. Homeowner advising that he had the flames out with a garden hose, but a lot of smoke throughout the barn. C-47 held Co. 47 and placed all other units in service. Crew preformed salvage, overhaul and vented smoke from barn. Cause was determined to be a heat lamp to keep baby goats warm. The goats (2) died in the fire. Units cleared the scene around 0515 hrs.

LATE NIGHT HOUSE FIRE

 

FEB 20th - At 2353 hrs. Co. 47 dispatched to 7 Wagner Drive in South Newton Twp. for a House Fire. Utility 47 on the scene soon after dispatch confirmed working fire. E-247 crew pulled handlines and assisted with fire attack. Assisted with salvage and overhaul. Crews remained on the scene until around 0230 hrs. PSP Fire Marshall confirmed fire started by buckets of ashes set outside next to wood pile. Wood pile caught fire and spread to deck and house. Thanks to the 36 crew for standing by.

FEB 16th - Mod D class recently started at co. 47. There are 19 students in the class from all over the county. Instructor for the class is Jay Sharpe.

UPPER MIFFLIN HOUSE FIRE

 

 FEB 13th - At 0009 hrs. Co. 47 was alerted to Upper Mifflin Twp. next to 1338 Mountain Road for a House Fire. C51/E251 arrived to find a well involved single story bungalow. E147 crew pulled back up line, assisted with extinguishment and overhaul. Crews remained on the scene until 0342 hrs.

BUSY SUNDAY

 

 FEB 10th - Sunday crews were kept busy starting with an overturned vehicle on Centerville Road at 0741 Hrs. Three calls in the afternoon for trees/wires down from the high winds in the area. The night ended with a reported Tractor Trailer overturned on   I-81 NB @ MM 33. Crews in the area and unable to located any accident at 2112 Hrs.

CHIMNEY FIRE ON THE RITNER

 

FEB 2nd - Dispatched at 2009 hrs. to West Pennsboro Twp. 3047 Ritner Highway for a chimney fire. Checked for extension and removed hot coals from basement. Due to strange location and accessibility had Truck 45 set up and check chimney from the top. Units cleared at 2102 hrs.

OVERTURNED ON THE HILL

 

 

FEB 1st - At 1927 Hrs. Dispatched to West Pennsboro Twp. Carlisle Road at Cemetery Hill for Auto Accident Vehicle Overturned. Arrived on scene to find female out of vehicle laying on roadway. Stabilized vehicle and assisted EMS with patient, patient then taken to Big Spring Middle School to rendezvous with Life Lion. Assisted by Company 46.

PILE UP ON THE INTERSTATE

 

JAN 29th - At 2353 Hrs. dispatched to I-81 NB milemarker 29 for a Tractor Trailer Overturned. Co. 52 arrived on the scene to find five (5) tractor trailers involved in the pile up. Both 47 ambulances transported patients from the scene. Rescue crew provided lighting and assisted with fuel spill and debris clean up.

JAN 29th - Alerted at 1358 hrs. to Upper Mifflin Twp. 1219 Mountain Road for Garage Fire. Chief 51 on the scene with well involved 36x26 garage. Crew assisted with extinguishment and cleared the scene around 1520 hrs.

JAN 23rd - Dispatched to Rt. 233 & Rt. 11 in Penn Twp at 1622 Hrs. for 2 vehicle accident. Co. 47 crews assisted EMS with patients and checked vehicles for fluid leaks and hazards.

AMBULANCE ON ENTRAPMENT & FLY OUT

 

JAN 19TH - At 0639hrs. A47 was dispatched to 1335 Walnut Bottom Road in Penn Twp. for Auto Accident with entrapment. EMS crew attended to the patient, while crews from Co. 49/50 extricated the patient. Patient was then transferred to Life Lion.

FIRE COMPANY BANQUET

 

JAN 18TH - Annual Fire Company Awards Banquet was held on this day with approximately 150 members and guest in attendance. A memorial service was held to remember those who had passed away during 2007. Special guest speaker Denny Clopper spoke to the audience about public relations between fire companies, municipalities, state and local elected officials. Life Memberships were presented to Janet Conover, Sandy Hockensmith and Nancy Myers. Junior Members presented Fire Chief Buck Bigler with a new stokes basket for on the Mini-Pumper. They also presented EMS Chief Troy Wiser with Automatic B/P Cuffs and Amplified Stethoscopes for both ambulances. Below are more 2007 Achievement Awards.

TRUCK OVERTURNED

 

JAN 18TH - At 1220 hrs. MP47 dispatched to Lower Mifflin Twp. 4600 Blk. of Enola Rd. for fuel spill from overturned cement truck. Crew contained fuel and fluid spill and stood by while truck was uprighted.
