DUMP / GRASS FIRE

September 2nd- Dispatched at 1517 hrs to 844 Big Spring Rd for Outside Investigation. Units in the area and found grass and dump fire unattended. Crews extinguished fire and discovered a boat was also burning in the dump.

DECK FIRE - OUT ON ARRIVAL

August 10th- Dispatched at 0932 hrs. to North Newton Twp. 438 Steelstown Road for Deck Fire. Home owner came home and found deck on fire. Crewarrived on the scene to find owner using the green line and had fire out. Command held E247. Determined that cigarette put in flower pot several hours earlier had smoldered and caught fire. Minor damage to deck with no extension.

NEWVILLE'S 1st NIGHT OUT

August 3rd- Newville Borough, Newville Borough Police Dept., and Mayor Becky Barrick held Newville's 1st ever National Night Out. Besides the Newville Police Dept, Newville Fire Company, others attending the event were Pennsylvania State Police, Cumberland County Sheriff, Carlisle Police K9, Cumberland County Mobile Communication Center, Cumberland County Search & Rescue Team, Cumberland County Animal Rescue Team, Carlisle Fire & Rescue Services, WEMA, Red Cross, and West Shore ALS. Free Hot Dogs and Soda were donated by Saylor's Market. Newville EMS provided Ambulance Tours and Free Blood Pressure checks, fire company provided vehicle tours and kids had fun spraying water.

PATIENT EXTRICATION - TRAINING

July 28th- Fire and EMS personnel got together tonight and practiced getting patients out of vehicles. Everyone learned something new. Younger guys and gals got to see up close what all is involved.

ASSIST ON LAND RESCUE

July 26th- Dispatched at 2127 hrs. to assist CO. 50 and 36 with a female patient that fell 20+ feet onto rocks. Patient was located at Tumbling Run. Female was unconscious and was air lifted from the scene by MD State Police Troopers 3 & 6. Crews from several fire companies assisted with getting crews into the patient.

 


 

HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP CABIN FIRE

July 25th- Dispatched at 1432 hrs. to Hopewell Township Turnpike Rd/Enola Rd for Cabin Fire. Co. 51 out on outside smoke investigation and C51 came upon the cabin fire already on the ground at dispatch. Brush trucks hauled water to the scene for extinguishment. Co. 47 cleared the scene at 1632 hrs.

HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP HOUSE FIRE

July 12th- Dispatched at 1544 hrs to Hopewell Twp. 121 Hilltop Road for House Fire. Company 51 arrived and found attic fire in ranch home. Crews arrived and assisted with interior operations. Pulling ceilings and overhaul. CO. 47 units cleared the scene at 1826 hrs. Thanks to Perry County. Co. 4 for the transfer.

PENN TOWNSHIP HOUSE FIRE

July 9th- Dispatched at 1611 hrs. to Penn Twp. 1221 Centerville Road for House Fire. E247 arrived and crews pulled attack line and began extinguishment. Command requested 2nd Alarm. Crews assisted with ventilation, salvage and overhaul. Building was an old camper with a 10 x 15 side building attached, total loss.

OVERTURNED ON THE RITNER

July 7th- Dispatched at 1550 hrs. to South Newton Twp. 2800 Blk. Ritner Highway for Auto Accident, vehicle overturned. Arrived to find passenger out of vehicle. Checked vehicle for spills and hazards. EMS attended to patient.

June 28th- Dispatched at 1453 hrs. to North Newton Twp. Shippensburg Rd & Oakville Rd  for vehicle accident. Arrived on the scene to find 2 vehicles involved, truck vs. sedan. Crews from Co. 47 & 49 assisted EMS with 2 patients and checked vehicles for any spills or hazards.

June 19th- Friendship Hose Company lost 2 LIFE MEMBERS this week who were both battling illnesses. George H. Plough & Richard G. Boldosser. Our hearts and prayers go out to both families and friends.

MUTUAL AID TO PERRY COUNTY

June 18th- Dispatched at 1037 hrs to Transfer to Landisburg Fire Co. #4. Shortly after were requested to the scene of the barn fire at 1728 Pleasant Valley Rd. E147 was used as supply engine. Crew assisted with control and extinguishment.

CRASH IN UPPER MIFFLIN

June 14th- Dispatched at 1909 hrs to 100 blk of Gameland Rd for Auto Accident. R47 cancelled before arriving. Both 47 Ambulances assisted at the scene. Life Lion helicopter was called to transport 1 patient.

June 12th- Ambulance 47 dispatched at 0021 hrs to Penn Township 1604 Pine Rd for Auto Accident. Arrived on the scene to find single vehicle struck utility pole. EMS transported patient to CRMC.

STORM DAMAGE

June 4th- Just before Graduation got over a storm rolled through the Newville Area bring downpours and high winds. High winds brought down several trees and ripped the roof off this building and through it into the trees. No Injuries were reported.

June 4th- Four members of the Friendship Hose Company graduated from Big Spring High School. Josh Koch, Coty Price, Bradley Stouffer, and Cody Young. Congratulations to all for a job well done and we wish you the best in your future endeavors.

NEWVILLE MEMORIAL DAY

May 31st- Friendship Hose Company participated in the Newville Memorial Day Parade and Memorial service. Thanks again to all the Men and Women who are serving our country.

 

 


 

ROLLOVER NO INJURIES

May 15th- Dispatched at 0300 hrs. to Lower Mifflin Twp. Center Rd and Roxbury Rd for Auto Accident, with rollover. Headquarters advised, female still in vehicle not injured. Fire & EMS arrived and assisted female from vehicle, checked for leaks and hazards, went available.

MOTHERS DAY DINNER

May 9th- Mothers Day Dinner was held today and was a success. About 175 people were in attendance and enjoyed their meal. This is the first Sunday Dinner we have had in many years. With the new kitchen facilities, this made it some much nicer. Looking forward to seeing everyone on June 20th for Fathers Day Dinner.

ROLL OVER ON THE "I"

May 4th- Dispatched at 1826 hrs. to Penn Twp. I81 NB Exit 37 for Auto Accident, vehicle overturned. A147 and E147 responded, Chief 50 on the scene holding EMS and R50. EMS transported victim to Carlisle Regional Medical Center.

NORTH NEWTON JUNK DAY

May 1st- Members of the Friendship Hose Co. attended North Newton Township Junk Clean Up Day and helped unload junk from residences vehicle and put them in containers. The guys enjoyed themselves even though some it was hard work, but will be ready to help again. Engine 147 was also on display and members also handed out about 50 smoke detectors.

TOUR BUS FIRE ON I-81

April 27th- Dispatched at 0935 hrs to Penn Twp I81 NB Exit 37 for Bus Fire. C341 on the scene with well involved bus. E147 arrived, pulled handlines and made attack. Other crews assisted with extinguishment and overhaul. 46 passengers and driver all escaped and were later transported by school bus to Co, 47  station to wait for another bus to arrive. Great job by all involved.

DUAL 47 AMBULANCES ON ENTRAPMENT AND EJECTION

April 22nd- Both 47 ambulances were dispatched to Hopewell Twp. Enola Rd and Three Square Hollow Rd for Auto Accident with Entrapment X2 and ejection. Enroute crews encountered very foggy conditions. No Aeromedical services available due to weather. Both 47 Ambulances transported by ground to Hershey Medical Center, A73 transported to Chambersburg Hospital.

1st ALARM HOUSE FIRE 46-03 BOX

April 19th- Dispatched at 1758 hrs. to West Pennsboro Twp. 1489 Creek Rd for House Fire. C47 on scene with working fire.  Handlines off E248 for attack and extinguishment. Co. 45 crew opened the roof, others performed overhaul operations. PSP Fire Marshall to investigate, Red Cross called to assist family.

April 16th- Dispatched shortly after 1800 hrs. to 107 W Big Spring Ave for Tree and Wires on the road. Arrived and secured area called PP&L. Also handled a few other storm related calls.

April 4th- Dispatched at 1446 hrs. to North Newton Twp. Greenspring Rd & Fish Hatchery Rd for Motorcycle Accident. Arrived to find motorcycle laid over along side of the road. Driver was transported to CRMC with minor injuries.

March 31st- Dispatched at 0939 hrs. to Penn Twp. 3696 Ritner Highway for Mobile Home Fire. Engine's 49 & 247 arrived to find trash fire that extended into a mobile home being demolished. Crews assisted with extinguishment and overhaul. Units cleared the scene at 1102  hrs.

March 28th- Dispatched at 0928 hrs. to Penn Twp. 2212 Pine Road for Garage Fire. C49 on the scene with well involved vehicle inside pole garage. E49 arrived and pull handline and made extinguishment. E247 staged and was placed available. E147 transfered to Co. 50 for a short stay.

CAR VS. HORSE & BUGGY

March 23rd- Both 47 Ambulances dual dispatched to South Newton Twp. 41 E. Main St just after 1400 hrs. for Horse and Buggy Accident with vehicle. Both 47 ambulances arrived and assisted with patient care. 1 Adult female transported by A73 to Hershey Medical Center, while 2 children were flown by Life Lion to Hershey.

OVERTURNED AT RED LIGHT

March 19th- Dispatched at 0911 hrs. to Newville Borough High & Main St. for Auto Accident with vehicle overturned. Units arrived to find 2 occupants out of vehicle with minor abrasions. Crews check vehicle for hazards and secured the vehicle. Both occupants were refusals. Fire Police assisted with traffic control.

PERRY COUNTY ASSIST

March 18th- Dispatched at 1529 hrs. to Perry County Southwest Madison Twp. 1700 blk. Laurel Run Road for Woods Fire. Brush 47 and 48 responded from Cumberland County and assisted with extinguishment. Units cleared the scene at 1733 hrs.

ANOTHER POTATO ROAD WATER RESCUE

March 14th- Dispatched at 1808 hrs. to Upper Frankford Twp. Potato Road for Water Rescue. Crews arrived on the scene to find single vehicle stranded in high water with 3 occupants of the vehicle on the roof and hood. Boat 45 arrived on the scene, deployed the boat and brought the occupants out to safety.

2 VEHICLE CRASH

March 13th- Dispatched at 1658 hrs. to Lower Mifflin Twp. Doubling Gap Rd and Center Rd for Auto Accident. Arrived on the scene to find two vehicles involved and patients still in vehicles. Crews stabilized vehicle and assisted EMS with patient care. Total of 6 people involved in crash and only 2 were transported by ground to University Medical Center.

March 9th- Crews got together for another round of egg making. With Easter just a few weeks away, don't wait until they're all gone. Peanut Butter, Coconut and Cherry eggs will be available until Easter.

2nd ALARM FATAL HOUSE FIRE

March 8th- Dispatched at 0552 hrs. to Lower Frankford Twp. Old Mill Road and Wildwood Road for House Fire. Co. 48 units on the scene with well involved structure. Upon making entry crew finds class 4 victim just inside the door. E247 arrived and supplied E148,  crews from E1 & E247 assisted with extinguishment, salvage and overhaul. Units cleared the scene around 1030 hrs. Our hearts and prayers go out to the victims family and friends.

TRACTOR TRAILER HANGS ON

March 5th- Dispatched at 1900 to I-81 SB MM33 in the are of Firehouse Rd for Tractor Trailer Accident. C49 arrived on the scene to find tractor hanging over the bridge onto Firehouse Rd. A147 and R47 responded. A147 checked trucker out after he was rescued from cab of his truck. R47 was placed available. Interstate 81 SB was closed for several hrs during clean up.

CRASH WITH FLYOUT

March 5th- Dispatched at 1440 hrs. to West Pennsboro Twp. 641 Big Spring Road for Auto Accident vehicle into pole. Units arrived and found occupants out of vehicle. Rescue personnel assisted EMS with patient and secured the vehicle. 1 patient was flown by Lifelion Helicopter from Oak Flat Elementary School.

HORSE ACCIDENT

March 4th- Dispatched shortly after 1500 hrs. to assist EMS and QRS48 with an Equestrian Accident. Utility 47 responded and was used to bring patient out of field in stoke basket.

March 3rd- Training night included several different areas. Ladders, ropes, power equipment, hydraulic rescue tool operation, and a maze. Below are a few pictures, more on photos page.

PILE UP ON THE PIKE

February 26th- Dispatched at 0712 hrs. to Upper Mifflin Twp. PA Turnpike MM 206 WB for Vehicle Accident. After Responding County dispatched advised Command 47 that Turnpike advised several accidents in the same area with 10-15 Tractor Trailers and 8-10 cars involved. Snowing and winds at 30-40 mph caused white outs for the next 2 hours. E147 arrived on the scene and got caught in the backlog. Unable to make it to the scene, crew members got out and started the 3/4 of a mile hike. Crews checked damaged Tractor Trailers and passenger vehicle along the way for injuries. Finally reaching their destination, crews for truck driver trapped. R51 was able to reach the scene by going EB in the WB lane. SQ54 was also called for support. Driver of vehicle was extricated from tractor after about 1 hr and 15 minutes, a total of 4 people were transported to local hospitals. Stranded motorist and drivers of damaged vehicle were transported to the Blue Mountain Plaza for shelter and food. WB lanes of the turnpike remained closed until 1430 hrs, while crews cleaned up all the wrecked vehicles. Great job by all companies on the scene, considering the weather conditions.

VEHICLE SHEARS OFF UTILITY POLE

February 18th- Dispatched at 0747 hrs. to Upper Frankford Twp. Enola RD in the area of Church of God Rd for Auto Accident unknown injuries. R47 and A247 responded and were placed in service by Command 48, no injuries.

ROAD CLOSED

 

     OAKVILLE ROAD - North Newton Twp. Oakville Road just before Ridge Road will be closed starting February 2nd-June 2010 for Bridge Replacement. This is the 700 Blk. of Oakville Road. All Houses in the 700 Blk. can be reached before you get to the bridge. Use caution, and common sense when responding.

 


 

SUV  STRIKES UTILITY POLE

February 8th- Dispatched at 2303 hrs. to West Pennsboro Twp. 100 Mt. Rock Road for Vehicle Accident. EMS arrived to find driver out of vehicle. Fire Dept. secured vehicle and assisted PSP and Towing company with lighting. EMS transported 1 patient to CRMC.

16-18" SNOW KEEPS CREWS BUSY

February 5th & 6th- Crews were kept busy over the 2 day period, which brought between 16-18" of snow to the area. Crews were on station for the 2 day period and assisted with many different activities, including running the regular fire related calls. medical assist with EMS, shoveling out hydrants, and assisting the local citizens with shoveling and removing snow from around furnace vents on the roof of mobile homes. Thanks to all who gave their time.

 


 

ENTRAPMENT WITH 2 FLYOUTS

January 31st- Dispatched at 1532 hrs. to North Newton Twp. 600 blk. of Oakville Road for Auto Accident with entrapment. Headquarters advised 2 vehicles head on with multiple patients. Fire & EMS arrived to find entrapment in one vehicle. Crews performed extrication, assisted EMS with patients x4, secured hazards and fluid spills. E49 handled the landing zone. 2 patients flown by 2 Life Lion helicopters, and 2 transported by ground.

EMS ON HOPEWELL CRASH

January 24th- Dispatched at 1150 Hrs. to the 500 blk. of Shippensburg Road for Vehicle Accident on its side with entrapment. A147 and M87 responded from the Newville Station and assisted Co. 51, 54 and 73.

TRAINING AT PLAINFIELD

January 24th- Members of the FHC joined with Co. 46, 48, 45 in Plainfield for some Fundamental Fire Training. New members and Junior had the opportunity to enter a fake smoke environment and see what it's all about. Others got the chance to cut holes in the roof. Thanks to Co. 46 for the invite.

AWARDS BANQUET

January 15th- The 2009 Awards Banquet was held with approx. 140 people in attendance. Representatives from area Municipalities, Fire and EMS Companies along with family and friends. Chaplain Richard Bower of the Washington County Fire & Rescue Association was the Guest Speaker for the evening. Special Thanks to the McConnellsburg Fire Company and Cumberland-Goodwill EMS for the Stand-by.

1st DUE HOUSE FIRE

January 10th- Dispatched at 1028 hrs. to West Pennsboro Twp. 123 Oak Flat Road for House Fire. C147 on the scene with working fire. E247 arrived and deployed 2 Handlines. Crews assisted with extreme salvage and overhaul operations. Red Cross was on the scene. State Police Fire Marshall is investigating. Companies on the scene were: 47, 49, 50, 53. SINGLE VEHICLE OVERTURNED

January 5th- Dispatched to the 800 Blk. of Greenspring Rd. in North Newton Twp. for Vehicle Accident / Overturned. Fire & EMS arrived on the scene to find single occupant out of vehicle. Fire crews secured vehicle and the pole and wires. EMS transported 1 to CRMC.

MEDIC 87 IN SERVICE

 

January 1st- The Friendship Hose Company and the Newville Community Welcomed the West Shore ALS Service to our area. Medic 87 went in service on this date. Medic 87 is stationed at Co. 47.
