WORKS STARTS ON NEW KITCHEN

 

JUNE 30th- Work has started on a New Full Service Kitchen on the East end on the Bingo Room. Work is being done by Premier Construction Group from Dillsburg. Work is to completed by mid to late September.

TRUCK FIRE IN THE BOROUGH

 

JUNE 29th- Dispatched around 1745 hrs. to 1 Chestnut Street in the Borough for Vehicle Fire. E147 arrived to find fully involved engine compartment. Handline off E147 for extinguishment. Crews remained on the scene for about 30 minutes.

SUPER RAFFLE 2009

 

JUNE 27th- Company 47 & 48 held the 5th Annual Super Raffle today. Thanks to everyone who helped that day, and to those who supported us.

ASSIST ON TRUCK CRASH

 

JUNE 22nd- Dispatched at 0818 hrs. to Shippensburg Township 976 Ritner Highway to assist on Truck vs. Tractor Trailer into House with Fire. R47 crew arrived and assisted with interior operations. Crew assisted with stabilization and getting the driver free from the wreckage. Remained on the scene until around 1030 hrs. Ritner Highway remained closed until late afternoon.

 

 

 

 

 

 

ASSIST ON HOUSE FIRE

 

JUNE 12th- Dispatched at 1140 hrs. to West Pennsboro Twp. W. Main Street in Village of Plainfield for House Fire. First units arrived and confirmed working fire. E247 crew arrived and assisted with extinguishment. Co. 47 remained on the scene for several hours assisting with salvage and overhaul.

DAYCARE VISIT

 

JUNE 10- Members of the FHC visited the Newville Brethren Church Daycare Center today. Kids got to tour the apparatus and even got to play with the hoseline.

COMMUNITY DAY AT WEST PENNSBORO PARK

 

JUNE 6th- West Pennsboro Township held it's 1st Community Day at the West Pennsboro Twp. Fire Company and Park. There was a good turnout for the first time. Co. 46, 47, 48, and 40 all participated in the event. Here are a few things went on: Vehicle Extrication Demo, Water Rescue Display, Fire Extinguisher Demo, Kids played with handline, Smoke Trailer, Fire Prevention Handouts, Horse Rides, Child ID's, Dancing Dogs, Food, Firefighter Challenge, and special appearance by Smokey the Bear.

EARLY MORNING CRASH

MAY 27th- Dispatched at 0148 hrs. to North Newton Twp. Shippensburg Road 1/4 mile East of Oakville Road for Vehicle Accident Overturned. EMS and Fire Dept. arrived on the scene to find 2 occupants out of vehicle. EMS transported both patients to Carlisle Regional Medical Center. Fire Dept. checked vehicle for hazards and cleaned debris from roadway.

 

LATE NIGHT CRASH

MAY 27th- Dispatched at 2346 hrs. to Lower Mifflin Twp. 501 Middle Road for Vehicle Accident. Arrived to single single vehicle into tree. Occupant out on arrival, EMS transported patient to Carlisle Regional Medical Center. Fire Dept. checked hazards and stood by on the scene.

MAY 25th - Newville Memorial Day was held today to Honor all the men and women in the Armed Forces who are currently serving or have served in the past. We THANK YOU!

FATAL ON THE PIKE

MAY 16th-  Dispatched at 0621 Hrs. to Upper Frankford Twp. PA Turnpike MM 214 EB for Auto Accident with Entrapment. Crews arrived on the scene to find Tractor Trailer and passenger vehicle involved. Driver of passenger car was class 4. Command held Co. 47 and placed others available. Turnpike was closed down while Coroner and PSP conducted investigation.

 

 

COMBINE FIRE

MAY 13th- Dispatched at 2242 hrs. to 19 Goodyear Road for Tractor Fire. C47 arrived on the scene to find well involved combine on the roadway. E147 arrived and pulling 1 3/4" handline for extinguishment. Crews remained on the scene until local farmer made arrangement to get a trailer and haul the combine away. Co. 46 and 48 assisted at the scene.

PUMP OPS 1 CLASS

ASSIST ON DUAL ENTRAPMENT

MAY 5th- Dispatched at 1323 Hrs. to Dickinson Twp. I-81 NB MM 43 for Vehicle Accident with Dual Entrapment. Headquarters advised Tractor Trailer, RV, and passenger vehicle involved. Both entrapments were in passenger vehicle. R47 crew arrived after fighting through 2 mile back log of traffic and assisted with patient transport to Life Lion and debris clean up. A147 transported patient from RV to Carlisle Regional Medical Center.

POLE FIRE

MAY 4th- Dispatched to West Pennsboro Twp. 476 Centerville Road for Pole Fire. Arrived on the scene and confirmed pole fire. Called PP&L and closed roadway due to top of pole burned off and dropped wires. PP&L arrived short time later and extinguished the fire. Cleared at 1033 hrs.

1st DUE HOUSE FIRE

APRIL 24th- Dispatched at 1049 hrs to Lower Mifflin Twp. 825 Doubling Gap Road for Electrical Fire. E247 arrived on the scene to find heavy smoke from the structure. Crew found fire in 2nd floor bedroom that extended into the attic. Co. 47,48 and 40 crews handled interior operations, while Truck 53 crew cut hole in roof. Electrical switch shorted out and ran interior wall to the attic.

BACK  IN  SERVICE

 

APRIL 15th- Rescue 47 went back in service yesterday after a much needed rehab. New paint job, scotchlite, lettering, compartment and cab reconfigurations. We also added onboard air compressor and airline reels. Thanks to everyone who helped make things happen. Special Thanks to Mike Spahr for the scotchlite and lettering. Big Thanks to Asst. Chief Bigler who headed the project and handled most of the compartment changes. Below are some of the new compartment layouts.

 

 

 

 

GRAIN BIN FIRE

APRIL 8th- Dispatched to Lower Mifflin Twp. 195 Creekview Rd for Grain Bin on Fire. Units arrived to find metal bin burning, Crews assisted the farmer with unloading the grain.

CONFINEMENT ON THE INTERSTATE

APRIL 7th- Dispatched late evening to Interstate 81 SB milemarker 30 for Vehicle Accident that overturned now back on its wheels with 3 confined. E147 running for R47 was cancelled upon arrival, but the A147 along with the Assistant Chief Bigler assisted on the scene.

OVERTURNED ON THE PIKE

APRIL 6th- Dispatched at 1819 hrs. to PA Turnpike MM 211.2 EB for Tractor Trailer Overturned with entrapment and Fire. Turnpike maintenance on the scene advising no fire and driver was extricated from the truck. EMS on transported driver to local hospital class 3, no obvious injuries. Fire Department arrived and checked for fluid spills and other hazards. Truck was hauling processed hamburger to be used to make dog food. E147 remained on the scene until 2300 hrs. providing lighting until roadway was cleaned up.

 

 

RESCUE UPDATE

APRIL 2nd- Rescue 47 is almost ready to be put back in service. We are waiting on the new bar light, flood lights, arrow board and a few minor compartment configurations. Lighting was shipped yesterday, so hopefully a week from now it will be back in service.

 

 

DUAL PEDESTRIAN'S STRUCK

MARCH 25th- Dispatched at 0757 Hrs. to West Pennsboro Twp. Kerrsville Rd & Clay Rd for Pedestrian Struck X2. EMS arrived on the scene to find 2 West Pennsboro Twp. road crew workers struck. EMS requested Life Lion helicopter to fly for both patients. E147 handled the Landing Zone. Both road crew workers are also members of the West Pennsboro Twp. Fire Company. The Officers and members of the Friendship Hose Company wish them both a healthy and speedy recovery.

HAY BALES ON FIRE

MARCH 23rd- Dispatched at 1738 Hrs. to 42 Fickes Road in West Pennsboro Township for Hay Bales of fire. Units arrived to find about 20 round bales involved. Crews from CO. 47, 49 and 50 worked with a local farmer who brought his front end loader and pushed the burning bales into a hole. Bales were pushed into hole and allowed to continue to burn into the next day.

RESCUE UPDATE

MARCH 10th- Rescue 47 came back to the station this afternoon after receiving a new coat of paint. Painting was done by East Coast Body and Paint Shop on Ritner Highway. Next week the rescue will receive it's new LED emergency warning light package. Lettering and new scotchlite scheme will start soon. Also there will be compartment and cab reconfigurations.

CHIMNEY FIRE

MARCH 9th- Dispatched just before noon to Upper Mifflin Twp. 900 Mountain Road for Chimney Fire. Crews arrived and checked for extension and laddered the roof.

FATAL ACCIDENT

MARCH 7th- Dispatched at 1509 hrs. to Lower Mifflin Twp. Doubling Gap Rd & Center Rd for Auto Accident with ejection. EMS arrived on the scene to find patient lying in yard. EMS requested Aero Medical to the scene. Stat 13 dispatched with 15-18 min. ETA. EMS advised to have Stat 13 meet EMS at Carlisle Hospital. Fire Department arrived and assisted EMS and checked vehicles for hazards. SUV struck construction trailer and driver was ejected thru passenger side window. Driver of the SUV died of injuries at Carlisle Hospital a short time later. Fire Police remained on the scene while PSP conducted investigation.

MUTUAL AID TRAILER FIRE

MARCH 3rd- Dispatched at 0907 hrs. to assist on Trailer Fire in Lower Frankford Twp. 6 John Drive. C48 on scene with trailer on the ground. E247 responded with crew of 5 and assisted with overhaul.

FIELD FIRE IN 51 BOX

FEBRUARY 24th- Dispatched at 1612 hrs. to Upper Mifflin Twp. 1833 Mountain Road for Field Fire. MP47 and BR47 both responded. MP47 assisted Co. 51 with extinguishment and wet burned area down. Crews on the scene for about 35 minutes.

BARN FIRE IN 1ST DUE

FEBRUARY 24th- Dispatched at 0734 hrs. to Lower Mifflin Twp. 101 Meadows Road for Barn Fire. E247 on the scene with barn 1/2 involved. E247 deployed deluge gun to end of barn that was not involved and set up operation. After a water supply issue, water was hauled from a pond about a mile away. Truck 53 along with a few hand lines contained the fire. Local contractor brought in excavator to remove roofing and farm machinery, to insure fire was completely out. Half the barn was saved along with a newer barn that was added to the end.

TIME TO MAKE THE EGGS

FEBRUARY 23rd- Members of the Fire Company and Ladies Auxiliary got together and started making Homemade Easter Eggs. About 1800 eggs were made tonight and dipped the next night. They are ready to eat. See any member of the fire company or call 776-4747 to get yours.

TIRES ON FIRE

FEBRUARY 20th- Dispatched at 2110 hrs. to 866 Green Spring Rd in North Newton Twp. for Pile of Tires on fire. MP47 arrived to find large pile of tractor and large truck tires on fire.(Approx. 100 tires). Handlines off MP47 and E147. Water supplied by Tankers 151, 251 and 49. Crews also built dams so contain the run off. Crews cleared the scene around 2340 hrs. DEP on the scene the next day and was very impressed with the efforts of containing the run off.

UPDATE ON RESCUE REHAB

FEBRUARY 19th- Rescue 47 is currently O.O.S. and under going a much needed rehab. East Coast Body and Paint on Ritner Highway will be applying a new coat of paint. Once the paint    job is finished the rescue will return to the station and get a new LED light package, new scotchlite scheme to match E147, and cab and compartment reconfigurations.

WINTRY MIX BRINGS CRASHES

FEBRUARY 18th- Dispatched at 1519 Hrs. to West Pennsboro Twp. 3600 Blk. Ritner Highway for Vehicle Accident with ejection. EMS arrived on the scene and found female patient out of vehicle laying in field. Patient conscious, but with serious lower extremity injuries. No Helicopter available due to the snow/sleet and rain. Patient ground transported to Hershey Medical Center. Fire Dept. crews checked vehicle for hazards and secured the scene.

FEBRUARY 18th- At 1527 hrs., after arriving on the scene of the first accident, we received information of a crash in the 2900 Blk. of Ritner Highway with no injuries. MP 47 and Co. 50 responded to check. Arrived on the scene to find single vehicle into utility pole. Pole sheared off at bottom. Crews secure the scene and checked for fluid leaks.

FEBRUARY 18th- Dispatched at 1607 hrs. to North Newton Twp. Greenspring Road in the area of Mountain Road for another crash. Co. 51 arrived on the scene along with A-273 and handled the incident. Co. 47 went in service.

HOUSE FIRE

FEBRUARY 10th- Dispatched at 0858 hrs. to North Newton Twp. 3 Lance Court for House Fire. E247 arrived on the scene with working fire. Quick knockdown by E247 crew. Entire home suffered heavy smoke and heat damage. Mutual Aid companies assisted with salvage and overhaul. PSP Fire Marshall on the scene and believes the cause was electrical. No one was home at the time the fire started and was discovered by neighbors taking their children out to the school bus. Red Cross on the scene.

VEHICLE FIRE

FEBRUARY 4th- Newville EMS dispatched along with Co. 50 to Penn Twp 637 Mt. Rock Rd for Vehicle Fire. Chief 47 on the scene with Vehicle fire next to garage. D/C 50 upgraded box to 1st Alarm. Firefighters on the scene knocked fire down with extinguishers and garden hose. E150 arrived and finished overhaul with trash line. Remainder of 1st Alarm placed in service. Owner back vehicle out of garage and left it running to warm up. Good thing they did that! Garage did have some vinyl siding that melted.

CHIMNEY FIRE

FEBRUARY 2nd- Dispatched at 2158 Hrs. to North Newton Twp. 454 Nealy Road for Chimney Fire. Crews arrived on the scene to find fire behind old wooden mantle. Truck 53 arrived and set up to check the chimney. Interior crews dismantled metal cover to gain access behind mantle. Crews found mantle on fire. Used Foam extinguisher to put of burning debris. Crews cleared scene at 2303 Hrs.

WELL INVOLVED HOUSE FIRE

JANUARY 28th- Dispatched at 1000 hrs. to Lower Mifflin Twp. 477 Mountain Road for House Fire. County dispatched advised upon responding that Fire was already out windows. Due to 3-4 inches of fresh snow and sleet made driving conditions hazardous and added extra time before units reached the scene. E247 laid half way back the lane and E248 back in and completed the lay. Heavy fire out windows upon arrival. Command determined that there would be no interior attack. All occupants out and accounted for. Water was hauled to the scene from a pond 2 miles away. Home was a complete loss. Occupants had renters insurance as well as the owners who had homeowners insurance. Fire is believed to have started in the area of the woodstove and chimney.
