ROAD WORK - - BRIDGE REPLACEMENT
OAKVILLE ROAD - North Newton Twp. Oakville
Road just before Ridge Road will be closed starting February
2nd-June 2010 for Bridge Replacement. This is the 700 Blk. of
Oakville Road. All Houses in the 700 Blk. can be reached before
you get to the bridge. Use caution, and common sense when
responding.
ENTRAPMENT WITH 2 FLYOUTS
January 31st-
Dispatched at 1532
hrs. to North Newton Twp. 600 blk. of Oakville Road for Auto
Accident with entrapment. Headquarters advised 2 vehicles head
on with multiple patients. Fire & EMS arrived to find entrapment
in one vehicle. Crews performed extrication, assisted EMS with
patients x4, secured hazards and fluid spills. E49 handled the
landing zone. 2 patients flown by 2 Life Lion helicopters, and 2
transported by ground.

EMS ON HOPEWELL CRASH
January 24th-
Dispatched at 1150
Hrs. to the 500 blk. of Shippensburg Road for Vehicle Accident
on its side with entrapment. A147 and M87 responded from the
Newville Station and assisted Co. 51, 54 and 73.

TRAINING AT PLAINFIELD
January 24th-
Members of the FHC
joined with Co. 46, 48, 45 in Plainfield for some Fundamental
Fire Training. New members and Junior had the opportunity to
enter a fake smoke environment and see what it's all about.
Others got the chance to cut holes in the roof. Thanks to Co. 46
for the invite.

AWARDS BANQUET
January 15th-
The 2009 Awards
Banquet was held with approx. 140 people in attendance.
Representatives from area Municipalities, Fire and EMS Companies
along with family and friends. Chaplain Richard Bower of the
Washington County Fire & Rescue Association was the Guest
Speaker for the evening. Special Thanks to the McConnellsburg
Fire Company and Cumberland-Goodwill EMS for the Stand-by.

1st DUE HOUSE FIRE
January 10th-
Dispatched at 1028
hrs. to West Pennsboro Twp. 123 Oak Flat Road for House Fire.
C147 on the scene with working fire. E247 arrived and deployed 2
Handlines. Crews assisted with extreme salvage and overhaul
operations. Red Cross was on the scene. State Police Fire
Marshall is investigating. Companies on the scene were: 47, 49,
50, 53. Thanks to E148 for covering the station.

SINGLE VEHICLE OVERTURNED
January 5th-
Dispatched to the
800 Blk. of Greenspring Rd. in North Newton Twp. for Vehicle
Accident / Overturned. Fire & EMS arrived on the scene to find
single occupant out of vehicle. Fire crews secured vehicle and
the pole and wires. EMS transported 1 to CRMC.

MEDIC 87 IN SERVICE
January 1st-
The Friendship Hose
Company and the Newville Community Welcomed the West Shore ALS
Service to our area. Medic 87 went in service on this date.
Medic 87 is stationed at Co. 47.

SNOWY MORNING EXTRICATION
December 31st-
Dispatched at 0442
hrs. to Upper Frankford Twp. Bloserville Rd and Potato Rd. for
Auto Accident Vehicle Overturned. R47 crew arrived on the scene
and assisted Co. 48 with roof and patient removal. 2 patients
transported to CRMC by Newville and Carlisle EMS crew.

EARLY MORNING CRASH
December 20th-
Dispatched at 0711
hrs. to 500 blk. of Carlisle Road for Auto Accident with
reported entrapment. C47 on the scene, negative entrapment.
EMS47 packaged and transported victim, while R47 crew secured
the vehicle.

FLYOUT ON THE "I"
December 18th-
Dispatched at 1127
hrs. to South Newton Twp. I-81 NB MM 33 for truck overturned.
Co. 49 on the scene requesting aero medical to fly for driver.
R47 crew arrived and assisted with fluid control and secured the
vehicle.

SINGLE VEHICLE CRASH
December 17th-
Dispatched at 2111
hrs. to 3005 Ritner Highway in West Pennsboro Twp. for vehicle
accident. C47 arrived to find single vehicle sheared off utility
pole and was resting in residents driveway. Driver out of
vehicle, refusing EMS. Controlled fluid leaks and secured
vehicle.

SANTA COMES TO TOWN
December 6th-
Santa arrived at
the Green Ridge Village Retirement Community by Fire Engine.
Santa also brought snow flurries with him. He greeted the
residence at the Manor Home.

MUTUAL AID ASSIST
November 30th-
Dispatched at 1218
hrs. to Upper Frankford Twp. Grahams Woods Rd & Frytown Rd for
Auto Accident vehicle on its side with Confinement. Co. 48
arrived on the scene to find 2 victims still inside vehicle. Co.
48 crew began to stabilize the vehicle. R47 crew arrived and
assisted with finishing stabilization. Victims were then removed
from the vehicle with minor injuries.

COMPANY HALLOWEEN PARTY
October 30th-
Members of the FHC
were treated to a Halloween Party at the Station. The evening
started off with Supper, followed by a hay wagon ride and
finished the evening with music and dancing. Below are a few

ELECTRICAL FIRE
October 30th-
Dispatched at 1445
hrs. to Upper Mifflin Twp. 610 Bridgewater Road for Dryer Fire.
After units were responding the address was corrected unit were
redirected to North Newton Twp. 16 Bridgewater Road. Rescue 47
arrived and found light smoke condition and held R47 and TR53.
Crews ventilated residence and secured the utilities.

NEWVILLE HALLOWEEN PARADE
October 26th-
FHC participated in
the Newville Halloween Parade. Below are a few pictures of some
of our finest Fire and EMS volunteers.

ANOTHER HOUSE FIRE IN NORTH
NEWTON
October 21st-
Dispatched at 0405
hrs. to North Newton Twp. 85 Worthington Road for House Fire.
Firefighter C. Alleman on the scene advising working fire side
A/D. E147 arrived and pulled Blitz Fire and 2" handline and
dumped tank, knocking down major of the fire. Mutual Aid
Companies arrived and assisted with extinguishment and overhaul.
This road was about 1/2 mile off main road and was a single lane
road. Tankers hauled water from the Big Spring Fish and Game
Association off Steelstown Road. Elderly couple was awoken to
the smell of smoke and found outside of the house on fire, they
escaped without injury. House was heavily damaged and entire
house received smoke and water damage. Red Cross was on the
scene to assist the couple. Thanks to Co. 41 for the transfer
and helping get apparatus back in shape after we returned.

HOUSE FIRE IN OAKVILLE
October 12th-
Dispatched at 1650
hrs. to 304 Oakville Road in North Newton Twp. for House Fire.
Chief 252 on the scene with heavy smoke from side A. E49 arrived
and pulled handline, E147 arrived and pulled back up line.
Homeowner and neighbors had most of the fire knocked down with
dry chem extinguishers and the green line (Garden Hose). Crews
assisted with salvage and overhaul. Owner and fire company
officials believe fire was started by a candle that was knocked
over by a family dog. Crews were called back again for rekindle
around 1850 hrs. Owner said they saw a few sparks. Crews checked
areas and found nothing.

SMOKE DETECTOR CAMPAIGN


October 5th-
With the
start of Fire Prevention also Kicked off the Big Spring Fire
Prevention Task Force Committee's
SMOKE DETECTOR
CAMPAIGN.
The local fire companies within the Big Spring School District
are offering any homeowner who is in the need of Smoke Detectors
to Contact your local fire company. The Task Force Committee
Received at Federal Grant for Smoke Detector's with a 10 Year
Lithium Battery. Which means, the battery needs replaced in 10
years. Citizens need to contact your local fire company by phone
or email address listed below. The fire company will then
contact you and make arrangements to come and install the
detectors.

COMPANIES VISIT ELEMENTARY
SCHOOLS
October 5th-9th-
The Big
Spring Fire Prevention Task Force (Co. 46, 47, 48, 49, and 50)
visited all four elementary schools in the district this week to
promote fire safety. Students were given the opportunity to look
and the fire apparatus and then were shown a video. The video
reminded the students of what to do in case of a fire, and what
to do to prevent fires as well. The students along with the
local fire company members had another enjoyable time.
